State of the Counterculture

Now that the hipster craze is in its overblown, self-referential death throes (and yes, you can tell it’s got about a year left because it’s reached cultural superpermeation, more on that later), I’d just like to point out that the people responsible for the whole thing are those who practically made a career of making fun of emo in the early 00s. Not to say emo wasn’t ridiculous in its own special ways, but in ridiculing emotional vulnerability ad nauseum, it was only natural backlash for insincerity and “irony” to take the reins. Let that be a warning before you complain about the next subculture that arises.
